Lock Down Your Crypto Account Before the Next Withdrawal

A few practical security habits can reduce the risk of account takeovers and unauthorized withdrawals. Build protection into your login, device, and withdrawal routines.

Your exchange account is a gateway to funds that may be difficult or impossible to recover after an unauthorized withdrawal. Strong security is not a one-time setup; it comes from consistent habits across your email, devices, login methods, and withdrawal settings.

Secure the email account behind your exchange login

Email is often used to reset passwords and approve account changes. Use a unique, long password for the inbox connected to your exchange account, and protect it with a strong authentication method. Review recovery addresses, phone numbers, forwarding rules, and active sessions so an attacker cannot quietly maintain access.

Use a unique password and strong two-factor authentication

Never reuse your exchange password on another service. A reputable password manager can generate and store a separate, complex password for each account. Enable two-factor authentication, preferably with a passkey or authenticator app where supported. SMS codes are generally more exposed to phone-number takeover, so avoid relying on them when safer options are available.

Store backup codes securely and separately from your everyday device. Never share passwords, one-time codes, or recovery phrases with anyone claiming to be support. Legitimate support staff should not need your authentication codes.

Protect your devices and login sessions

Keep your operating system, browser, and security software updated. Install apps only from trusted sources, use a screen lock, and avoid signing in on shared or public devices. Be cautious with links and attachments, including messages that imitate an exchange or create urgency around a withdrawal or account suspension.

After using a device you do not fully trust, sign out and review the account’s active sessions. Remove unfamiliar devices and API keys, and revoke access you no longer need. Consider using a dedicated browser profile or device for financial accounts.

Make withdrawals harder to redirect

Where available, enable an address allowlist and withdrawal time locks. Add trusted addresses carefully, verify every character, and use any confirmation or cooling-off period before sending funds. If you are making a large transfer, consider a small test transaction first, while accounting for network fees and minimum withdrawal requirements.

Do not approve a withdrawal request simply because a message says it is urgent. Check the destination and request directly inside the official app or website, reached through a saved bookmark or manually entered address.

Review account activity regularly

Turn on login, password-change, and withdrawal notifications. Check balances, order history, withdrawal records, connected apps, and security settings on a regular schedule. If you notice unfamiliar activity, use the exchange’s official security process immediately: secure your email, change credentials from a trusted device, revoke sessions and keys, and contact support through verified channels.

These precautions lower risk but cannot guarantee that an account or funds will remain safe. Keep only the funds you need on an exchange, understand its security features and withdrawal policies, and follow the platform’s current guidance.
